Probably due to healthier and stronger plants, there fore stalks not breaking down as fast..... just something you gotta deal with when you harvest 200 bu. corn and have good healthy plants I guess. 

 

Right on BigAsh.  A good healthy 200 bu crop leaves a ton of TOUGH residue.  It can be variety dependent as well.  This year everything looks like it will work up pretty nice.  I didn't have the "good crop syndrome" last year like most.  HAHA.
