Subject: RE: corn stalks dragging

Eastern Iowa
There are more stalks this year than in any spring I can remember since I started doing strip till and a lot of corn on corn. An early winter meant little fall decomposition and soils under residue are extremely cold yet meaning biological activity is at a standstill. Have seen significant earthworms last week or so but there is a lot of residue there yet. Untouched stalk ground is very unsettled and cold, clammy and damp. Soil usually is warmed up here by now but not under residue. Wouldn't surprise me if a little frost is way deep yet...
