Haleiwa - 4/24/2014 19:38 I am helping with a pineapple venture; a cross between Hilo White and MD2 which is exceptionally sweet. So far we have about one fourth of an acre planted, and plan to get about two or three planted in the next few weeks. At this point we are focused on increasing the amount of plant material available. I'm probably the only Haole on the island who has planted pineapple in several years, as almost all of the plantation workers are Filipino. There is definitely an advantage in being short for this job. "Haole" - had to look it up . . . .. English or American person. Thanks - always learning available on AgTalk. Is that a standard planting method of commercial pineapple operations - hand transplanting ? As someone asked, how many yrs will a plant produce ? When will be production ? (maybe about end of January 2015?) Thanks for sharing ! |
