east central MN | It's all true. I'm taking about it now with the idea of doing the background work now and starting next year. I have inlaws who are all notill out in SD but they have much different soil and weather than we do here. Minn gopher- I am on heavier solid but not quite the gumbo like clay you have up in PC. I don't mind doing tillage but it seems like a waste of fuel if it really isn't needed.
It sounds like I could surely notill my sorghum Sudan or teff into the trit pea stubble in June or corn into alfalfa sod/the sorghum Sudan stubble. But the hitch will be drilling the trit peas or winter trit into the corn silage stubble so that being said maybe a guy could vertical till or rip the corn ground every year and notill a large percentage of the rest. I don't know how that will impact my soil profile and if I'll catch those notill bennies or not. | |
