Bingo. I spent ALOT of money trying to build K before I figured that out. We always kept our pH up (7.0) because of having alfalfa in the rotation. Looking back, we always over-limed. Now, I never apply more than a ton at once and am happy with a pH between 6.0-6.5. I'm also applying maintainence amounts of K unless pH is closer to 6.0.
