I would be willing to bet your 8 bu yield wasn't because you planted too early in 2012.
Heck if anything 2012 should have taught you the earliest planted corn is usually the best. Some of the earliest planted bottom land corn here that year made 115. I'd say most of the later planted corn was zero'd out.
