red river valley se of fargo
Some corn varieties tend to increase or decrease ear size based on population and growing conditions, these are flex ear varieties. . Some varieties tend to maintain a similar ear size regardless of population, these are fixed ear varieties. All hybrids have varying degrees of flex. High flex are used more in dry conditions at low populations to minimize cost and salvage some yield in a drought while maintaining some higher yield potential. Fixed ear hybrids work best at high populations where water is more reliable and maximum yields are sought after. Fixed ear varieties at high populations tend to fail completely in extremely dry conditions. I have no idea about your specific hybrid.
