Maybe it's just me, but I'd say if they wanted you to know, thought it was any of your business, they'd have made a point to tell you.
And I were the land-lord, you wouldn't stand a chance at it until the current tenant either no longer wanted it, or was no longer wanted in it.
Same goes for the land we lease/rent. Some have multiple-year contracts, but for the most part, it's just plain two honest people with a mutual agreement.
