Are your advance numbers at idle or at 1600? If at 1600, that doesn't sound like enough total advance. Don't let it ping, though...

Also, what CR? If you or someone built it with high CR to run on NG, that would back the advance down.

How much manifold vacuum when under load?

Have you checked exhaust manifold temps with a heat gun?
