Thanks to the few who replied earlier this week.
I am considering purchasing a particular Series 3 Panther. It has some blue blow-by, so I believe that engine wear is a given and that some major repair expense should be anticipated (unlike black smoke that would just require adjustments.)
My question: Is this typical for a 3406A with 6500 hours? I have seen another Panther from the same type of service (Montana grain farming) with over 8,000 original hours on a 3406 and no visible smoke. My concern is that engine overhaul at 6500 hours is not typical, and if the engine was run that hard, the transmission and axles aren't too far behind. Of the 6000 hours of service records provided to me, it seems that regular maintenance was done... so I'm baffled. Current owner is very helpful in answering what he can, but he has only owned it for two years.
Please share any experience that you have had with Panther 325's, and what costs should be anticipated. I'm thinking major repair - valves, pistons, rings, etc. Many thanks for your help. | |
