In my opinion the test is flawed. The esn and nh3 need to be applied at same time. If your going to sidedress nh3, then they should have top dressed with the esn. If your going to put all the esn up front you need to do so with the nh3 too.
On a side note it doesn't matter what you do, split applying will almost always yield better than everything up front, irregardless of what form of N you use.
