It can freeze any night of the year here, and usually we get some nights 25*F or so into the end of May. Last year we had 22* when alfalfa was about a foot tall in May. I had one field with a little bug pressure, and was a little dry. It really smoked it. I should have gone right out and cut it. Other places were everything was good were fine, other than they quit growing for a couple days.
Cold nights make for high test hay, so it isn't all bad. Watch the tops. If you have sunshine on it and the tops turn back up this afternoon, your golden. If they stay turned or the plants start to lodge, you may have an issue. | |
