This kind of mentality exists in all professions, I suspect. A friend was a court reporter (the person typing out the questions and answers during a trial or a deposition). He was told by an older court reporter to never drive a car better than the attorneys did because they'd think you would probably charge too much if they needed you to take a deposition. It didn't matter that my friend had invested time and money in shifting to electronic systems that made him more efficient, giving him the ability to upgrade his car, had he wanted to.
