Clark SD | Was out checking fields yesterday to see if we could start planting spring wheat. Where we planned on planting was on soybean stubble. There was a good cover of residue on the surface. For the most part of the 5 fields that i checked the frost layer was about 12 inches down from the surface. While i was at it i checked a couple of fields that was spring wheat stubble planted to rye where the frost line was about 24 inches down from the surface. One other field was soybean stubble that was worked last fall, the frost line down at 12 inches.
Also checked some standing corn stubble the frost layer was at 23 inches.
