Subject: 2003 F150 A/C manifold

Central Iowa

I am working on my air conditioner on my 2003 F150 4x4 with a 4.6L. I discovered I had a leak in one of the hoses, and to replace the bad hose it requires an assembly with two hoses and a manifold that bolts to the compressor. My problem is the single bolt that clamps the manifold to the compressor seems to be either very, very tight, or electrolysis has welded it into the compressor threads. Has anyone been in this situation before? I don't know who the genius was that decided to mount the compressor on the bottom side of the engine, but it is unpleasant to work on. If I twist that bolt off, will I have to pull the engine to get the compressor out, or will it wiggle out through by the frame rail? Is there some simple trick I am not aware of to get the manifold bolt out? I could sure use some advice from someone that has fought this battle before. They say experience is the best teacher, but I would rather learn from someone else's experience!
