Middlesex County, Ontario | They reversed the flow in our line and one of the things to get all that approved was to send a pig through the line with an x ray machine or something of that nature. It found "something" on our property, maybe a crack or dent. So they strip a 100' wide corridor of topsoil with an excavator however long they need to get from the road to your field, drive over your wet clay subsoil a million times before they can get the swamp mats down, drive up and down the swamp mats another million times to dig their 30' by 30' by 10' inspection hole, determine it was just a big rock touching the line, weld a big patch "just in case, we don't care we're union," and then fix everything back up best they can. After they put all the topsoil back you can still see the road because water doesn't flow through smeared and compacted clay subsoil. It doesn't matter that its tiled, its just sealed off lower than our equipment can work it. Maybe we should deep rip it. They payed to replace the wheat crop they took out but there is no payment for compaction.
To the uneducated it looked like they could have just tracked an excavator back there, dug the hole in a couple days, and sent a pickup truck welder back there for a day, filled it in, and been done with it. I would have much rather had that then the road they built. Instead it took 6 months of 5+ guys, a porta potty, snow fencing off the "construction area," manager sitting in the truck idling all day, etc. They only worked at it a day every 10 days and there was a big chunk of winter in those months.
When making decisions I always ask myself, what good can come of it?
NOTHING GOOD CAN COME OF IT. |
