Plus things like K, Ca have a positive charge and the soil has a negative charge.
Ed also owns his ground so he can spend the going cash rent $$$ on fertilizer and still cash flow the year. Its sorta a stick theory math or "gross dollars" management to borrow a Garvo term.
Ed is shooting for +100bu wheat followed by 50bu dc nongmo beans and then a rye cover crop. So +$600/ac gross from the wheat, +$800 from the export beans. The rye will help build organic matter and scavenge any excess nutrients and help build the soil.
