We had the same thing on an 8420, replaced that part on the JD valve and works fine now. Evidently really common. That tractor also wore out the sensor and bearing in the steering column, evidently also really common. This was 6600+ hours, I would assume you are around there from what you were saying you bought those tractors for lately. JD guys said they do a bunch after 6000 hours.
