Subject: RE: planting hay

Little River, TX
You might do a search on Jim as the Filter by Author. He does well grazing out corn. Probably would not hurt to inter seed with your favorite legumes.

It may be better THERE but I would not expect to support more than 10 animal units there. Figure a horse as 1.25 animal units. Here it would be less than 5 animal units on 50 acres, being supported on 50 acres. To be ready for a little deeper annual drought, HERE, 4 animal units would be more realistic.

A grass to add to your mix might also be crabgrass. Southernokie might suggest you use at least 15 different species in a permnant pasture or hay meadow.

I really suggest you consider purchasing hay rather than raising your own.

Sixty years ago this farm went from Cotton & Corn to all hay, only becouse it paid better than row crops, HERE. Times have changed but I am way too old to change with the times.
