I think many of us are in the same boat. Got my Dad his first laptop last year with Win 8 (now 8.1) a year ago. He's 75 but figured for his first computer he might as well learn the newest windows and not have to update in a few years. My advice, just upgrade to a new computer. That's what I will do this Spring. We have XP on my 6 year old office desktop and Win 7 on the other couple of computers. Take the dive to Win 8.1 and just learn it. Everything is there like XP but crap is scattered all over. It took me several times working with Dad to figure stuff out. Hopefully you have friends or kids that can show you where "stuff" is so it will be more seamless. Got our girls Surface tablets at Christmas and Win 8.1 works better with a touch screen if you are going to use the "apps". You can still click on desktop and it performs like older Windows versions, more or less.

Just upgrade to an all new system. Good luck.
