I assume you are using a desktop software? I know in SMS if you already have field names and boundries you can tell the software to spatially sort the data when you read it in and then it makes no difference how many machines you use and field names make no difference they will be combined into the correct field.

If you do not have boundries defined in SMS then field name do need to be exact or once they are read in you can right click on "one machines field" and choose "merge fields" and put it with the field from your other machine.
