Subject: RE: Agleader power cable to modules.

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The above discussion is correct. Ag Leader uses two types of Power: CAN power and ground in the round CAN connectors and High Current power which is connected to the battery and is available in the two pole Deutsch connectors. High current power is required by almost every module (App Rate Module excluded). Many situations require High Current power elsewhere. If power is needed it should never be taken off of the CAN power.

For spray situations, motorized ON/OFF valves are often utilized and they need their own source of High Current power. A Clutch Control module and a planter needs a High Current power source to go to each clutch so High Current Power is needed there also.

In the Ag Leader implement cable shown in the pics and drawings above there are two pairs of Independent power pins. One pair leads to the Gray 2 pole Deutsch connectors and another leads to the single black 2 pole Deutsch connector.

The display cable in the tractor will provide High Current Power to the Gray pair. The battery cable portion consists of two possibilities. One has an extra pair of wires that end in a black 2 pole Deutsch. This is needed if one wants to get High Current power out of the black connector on the implement end. You can not get power out of the black connector unless you put power in on the tractor side.

I was just discussing that with a tech yesterday. He got called out and the customer needed to use the black connector but it was dead because the battery cable utilized did not have the black connector on it. It was installed and hidden nicely so they didn't want to remove it and replace it with the other battery cable that contained the black connector to the battery. The battery cable did have a GPS power connector (another pair going to the battery) that was not being utilized. They cut off that connector and installed a black one to feed that branch.

On my own planter I have need for lots of High Current power on the rear of the planter due to everything I'm trying to do. I have a Seed Tube Monitoring module, a Clutch Control module, Two Liquid Product Control Modules, an Injection Module, a valve power branch for four ball valves and power for the SureVac clutches. Originally I used both the gray and black connectors to spread out the load. Now that I'm adding injection, I rearranged the gray connectors so they feed everything but the Injection module. The Black connector will only feed the Injection module and pump.

I'm a little concerned about the total electrical load on the gray side. The worst case scenario should be when coming to a square end, all 24 SureVacs fire to stop planting and all four ball valves cycle to stop spraying. I have tried this in the shop and judging by the sound, the valves seem to cycle at normal speed.

If this become a problem, I guess I could wire in a battery mounted at the rear of the planter. I would just wire this in parallel with the High Current connections. This battery would help out and get recharged by the system when the electrical load is less.
