Maybe just offer to help with the planting/harvest this year, as a neighborly thing since they probably have all the inputs bought for this year. That's something you could do at the funeral without being rude.


That's what would happen around here. The neighbors would band together and help get their crop planted since all the inputs are probably arranged. I see no reason why you shouldn't offer to help them this spring. They will need someone to help arrange things to be done. If there is no obvious family friend to take this role I am sure you could be a huge help to the family and if treated right they would be glad to work with in the future.
