I have no sympathy for ya, these companies regularly deal with 20-25% markup on seed and chems. I can't deal with all the 20 something's fresh outta college in a company pickup that are gonna teach me how to farm.
I think it is important to distinguish the suppliers from retailers when you throw around profit margins. Even though monsanto has a 17% net profit margin doesn't mean that the retailer you are buying from does. If any retailer had a 20% net margin they would be slaughtered by the competition in the same way that a farmer in central Illinois would if he was paying all his landowners $50 per acre cash rent. |
