Subject: Irrigated Corn Population

Waldron, MI
I'm working on setting up my prescription maps for planting. We are just starting to try some irrigation, last year bought a traveling gun and did some beans. One field where we irrigated the beans showed about a 15 bushel increase which we were very happy with. I'm trying to figure out what population I should plant the corn at in this field where it might be irrigated. It's really not sandy ground. Slightly rolling clay. This field averages 152 bu/ac. the last 3 times its been corn. Typically we plant 32,000. I'm using a 112 day hybrid with a semi-flex ear, located right on the Ohio/Michigan line. I know in sandy ground the dry corners get planted really light so pops. in sand really don't help. What do you think is 32,000 good? 35,000? maybe 38 or 40?
