Central Missouri | I use litter in the fall, 2x2 28% and thiosol at planting, and then sidedress NH3. If I didn't have litter I would use Ammonia sulfate plus potassium sulfate. Don't overlook your need for sulfer.
Last spring which was very wet, I had annual ryegrass planted. I took N samples prior to green-up. They said I had 70# of nitrate N in the top 16". It proceeded to rain for 45 days and the ryegrass was 18" tall when we planted into it. Soil N tests then said I had 7# per acre as it was all in the ryegrass. I put on 30-0-0-5s 2x2. The corn was looking too lite in color so I topdressed 30-0-0-12 using ammon sulfate and ammon nitrate. Got .3" of rain that night and corn was dark green in 5 days. You have to adapt to the weather. Corn turned out very good even though I got 7" of rain the 2 days after I planted it. | |
