Subject: RE: horse hay

NE Iowa
Are you looking to plant hay for your own horses or looking to plant hay to sell to horse owners? If you are looking to sell horse hay you need to poll your local horse owners and see what they want. Whenever I've had excess hay to sell most of the interested callers are looking for hay for horses. They will make comments like: "Does your hay have any alfalfa because you can't feed any alfalfa to horses or they will bloat". And the next guy will say "Is your hay pure alfalfa because my horses need 100% pure alfalfa with no grass". Personally I like to plant 20# of alfalfa with 5-6# of orchardgrass. That is for my own beef cows but the excess if sold goes to horses.
