Subject: RE: Lawfarms/Haywilson on lime

King City, Mo
Talking with aversge farmers looking to become above average farmers the pocket book shuts off around $100/acre sometimes sooner for most guys here.

ca 52.4 ---needs >60%
mg 18.4 ---needs approx 10%
k 3.6 --- needs 4%

I looked at it this way, the ca should be the easiest to fix with hi cal lime. $12ish a tn here plus freight and spread. If he goes with 2tn that's $40+

The mg will be slower to leach off with the sulfur. So use the ams for the corn as an N and S source. $30-$40 acre

So I stopped thier. If he had a good year last year he could go ahead and address the K at the same time. Just remember Rome wasnt built in a day.

Pel lime would not be a good choice as its not a long term fix. I have decades of farming yet so I am not interested in short term fixes.

Graintrader -- read in the nitrogen chapter about mg levels and nitrogen requirements... That's as far as I'm in.
