north central iowa | We have tried 15" corn against 30" corn for a few years. We have used the same population on both and high rates. The yields have been +/- 5bu either way with nothing very consistent. This is on very good soils. The 15" rows do shade the ground earlier and did not need a post spraying (had a pre down) like the 30" rows did. If you do a good job with your 30" rows I think it would be tough to justify the equipment to go narrower rows until their are hybrids that are made for high pop narrow rows. | |
