I think the JD one is much nicer, because it attaches to a flat plate under the upholstery on the fender. I have tractors with both styles in them and I definitely think the JD one is a better design and more solid seat. However, K&M offers two different styles and I suspect that the newer styled one might be identical to one offered at JD dealerships. You have a 1998 model, so either style should work in your tractor.
