I think for smaller dairies there is no better way to store feed than in bags. You can size the bag so the face stays fresh and you have lots of flexibility. The cost of bags isn't that unreasonable IMO. I paid $425 for a 9x200 and can fit around 180 ton in it. That comes out to $2.36/ton. The way I figure it that comes to around $33 per cow per year. 150 cows x $33 = $4950 for a year's worth of bags. Good luck buying and maintaining a silo for that kind of money.
