Subject: NavII Placement in 2012 Challenger MT565D/Massey 76xx??

NW Iowa
I'm helping install an AutoPilot in my son's 565D. In Trimble's instructions, it shows mounting the Nav II on the right fender under the plastic trim. We mounted it as per the instructions and there was no way the trim would fit back down. Then we took the Nav's mounting plate off just to see if it would fit and we could get the trim back in position pretty good, but wondered about the necessity of the mounting plate. Has anyone installed a Nav II without the mounting plate?? Has anyone successfully installed a Nav II on the right fender with the mounting plate?? Should we give up on a nice, clean install and mount the Nav II behind the seat, or on the floor in the right hand corner of the cab?? On a side note, I've installed several complete AutoPilots in older tractors. The installation instructions on those were very thorough, with all the mating connectors clearly identified. The instructions included in this FMX package are vague, with about half of the connections completely unlabeled in any of the supplied schematics.
