Southwest Iowa | We went from a 3408 CaseIH corn head to a Drago 12 row, Series II last year and weren't very impressed with it. The main reason from going away from the CIH head was we were getting some header loss that no matter what we seemed to do, couldn't get it to an acceptable level. Didn't happen in every hybrid, but happened enough that we traded for the Drago after talking to some neighbors that have them, reading reviews about them and so on. I was actually pretty disappointed in it's performance. I know there were some differences between the 2 different series of heads, but we were surprised at how much shelled corn that thing left behind. Again, it didn't happen on every hybrid. But when it did happen, you definatily noticed. We sped the head up, slowed it down, adjusted the snoot angles and a few other things I'm sure the dealer did that I can't think of right now. As of right now, we can't see what all the hype about them is about.
We currently still have the head and are hoping they'll be able to come down 1st thing this fall when we start shelling corn and help us get this thing figured out, whether it's on their end or our end as far as the shelling problem goes. The 4400 CIH's look pretty good and they "say" they've addressed the shelling problem that everybody around here seemed to have with the 3400's. By the end of the 2014 harvest, we might be back to running a CIH head.
