NC IA | I love saving barns. Unfortunately their modern day usefullness is limited without major remodeling. Especially for a shop.
I have a fairly nice straight old dairy barn on my grandparents farm, (now my farm.) My grandfather tinned roof and sides in mid-90s, and quit milking cows a few years later. Since it has sat empty. I've wondered what to do with it all these years. Thought about a shop, but it is too small.
So I decided to dedicate it for parts storage. This winter we started remodeling it. Tore out old ceilings, a skidloader bucket of rat nest between each floor joist, remodeled a bathroom (already had plumbing, sewer, and previous toilet), completely rewire in-conduit (rats chewed on lots of old wiring, how it didn't burn down I'll never know.) Sheetrocked and insulated ceilings and a few walls. Like I said, my plan is to organize all my parts inventory, mostly tractor and combine parts, and my eventual plan is to be open to the public, like a retail store, within the next 10 months or so. Someday when I get ambitious I'll have to post some photos.
Good luck on your decision! | |
