but your avg is still 15 mpg!
Your not getting anywhere close to 22 to make any kind of cost savings. I do like how on the new GM 1/2 tons the display shows you your best it kinda pokes you at that if you only drove with a lighter foot you might, might avg higher mpg. It makes a game of the system and since everything we do comes down to some sort of competition on the whole we might see better MPGs across the board
Who said I was looking for cost savings? Might not be looking for them, but most if not all of the time I'm getting them. My old 6.0 gasser struggled to get 11 driving 55, and if I set the cruise at 70 I was lucky to get 9. Pulling a trailer I was looking for a fuel stop every 200 miles, so I figure I'm pretty close to breaking even.
Today's prices at the gas station I just left:
Diesel $4.19/15mpg = $.286 per mile
Gas $3.69/11mpg = $.3355 per mile
And for all the people who say you have to drive the truck umpty thousand miles to "pay back" for the diesel, look at used truck prices. Diesels get the premium back on resale usually all of the 8k or so option if not more, plus they are in higher demand.
