SE IA
I have to laugh at any most seed salespeople recommendations. There are only a handful that know what they are doing and what they are talking about. The rest are just parrots from the higher ups.

Many times the recommendations are what they have to sell. Last year company X couldn't get enough supply of a hybrid (A) we wanted. So they said that hybrid (B) will be just as good or better. Well when the seed salesman doesn't even remember that hybrid B was terrible in the plot but now is talking about how good that hybrid is...it lets you know that they are only a parrot from the higher ups DSM's and field reps.

In a very highly competitive area, I see the seed thing going to very similar cash n carry type of situations in the future. Why should I pay the extra cost for my dealer to be available at 11 pm at night for my neighbor who cannot plan, while I will not need that service because I have a plan in place?

I need a dealer/salesman that occasionally has the balls to go against what the company may be saying on populations versus what we are seeing in the fields. With VR seeding we have a pretty good handle on what populations we need to be planting at....and they are generally a couple thousand less seeds than what any company recommends.

It amazes me that we are encouraged to plant a hybrid that we have 0 experience with on our farm when we have so much $ on the line with every single acre.
