NE South Dakota Clark, SD | AGPS just changed their policy on Software Assurance as of Jan. 1st. I as a dealer was just made aware of it on Wednesday Feb 26th. It used to be that it could lapse and you had to pay one year and be back up to date. The new policy makes you back pay skipped years to get current. I do not completely agree with this, but I was not consulted on it. I have sold it under the old policy for 5 years, and now I have to tell my existing customers that things have changed. I do not like having to do this, but I have no choice. I do know a commercial tile plow operator that is still running 5 year old software. It does everything he wants, so does not feel the need to pay the fee. The only drawback to this is if his computer dies, AGPS will not transfer the software license with having current Software Assurance. This has been their policy as long as I have been a dealer. I do feel the fee is reasonable in comparison to some other software packages I sell. Ag Leader SMS advanced costs $2000. The annual maintenance fee is $450. If you add the Water Management Module for drainage design up front cost is $1000 with annual maintenance fee at $250. If you lapse, you pay back months or years to get current. Your dealer should have told you about this up front. |
