| This topic is really a double edged sword. On the one hand, it takes 3/4 million to put in 1000 acres, but you have a good chance at making $75 acre. That's a 10 percent roi. Banker still gonna turn him down. On the other hand, go back 20 years when the real opportunity to get started existed, you could put the whole crop in for what the rent costs today. Unfortunately, expected margins were $15 acre, or a 5 percent roi. That sucks. Banker gonna tell you to go flip burgers to make $15,000 yr., and you don't need to borrow $300,000 to do it. For those that say anything is possible, this is one occupation that is impossible to get started without some significant outside help. Sorry to throw a wet towel on your enthusiasm for the opportunity for the young, but I am a realist and fail to recognize any opportunity without livestock. | |
