Western New York | I'm a young farmer with a good credit history , work for a large farm and have started a small farm on the side, but I disagree. Land will be available to those who can pay for it, and that will probably not be the young farmer who hasn't been handed everything. At this point it makes no sense for me to tie up my precious little capital in land, when I should be using it to expand the operation and grow more acres or buy more efficient machinery. Farming is more and more capital intensive and harder and harder to get started on a commercial basis. The opportunities for a young farmer will probably not be trying to be the lowest cost producer of a basic commodity, but finding something or way or market that gives you the profit margin you need. | |
