sw mn | Something wrong, I am also in Mn, our 3800 sq ft house built in 1996 used 1668 kWh ($97.70) to heat in Dec, 2006 kWh ($117.55) in Jan. Thermostat is set at 73, I have the breaker shut off on the aux backup heat, so it never runs, it doesn't need to. We have a separate meter on our heat pump. During the heating season we get a discounted rate from our Co-op, .0586 per kWh compared to about .0934 regular rate. Our heat pump is a Trane Command-Aire, it has a heat recovery thing on it that takes excess heat from the compressor and puts it in our hot water. We have three 900 ft loops buried 8 ft deep in a wet location. I never have to worry about propane supply or prices. I am really glad I have geothermal, I built a new shop in 2010 and put it in there also. Got a 10 percent tax credit on the total cost of that system, also the reduced rate from Co-op.
Before making significant changes I would put a meter on your system so you know what it is using. | |
