I don't have a vote on which of your options is better. That said, since it's not supported (yet) if you get it running the physical functioning of the program should be alright, although untested. The majority of the problems I've seen come to data storage, printing, reading files etc. These are all operations that do something "outside" the actual SMS interface when it's open. Reading files from a USB, the mac OS might call it something when windows sees it as Drive G and the user is picking the wrong one. Printing to a printer connected on the mac side or windows side, or saving/exporting data to the hard drive or USB ports can also give troubles. 

It's not the end of the world, but most of those problems you'll have to troubleshoot yourself. 

Do people do it? Yes. Do I recommend it? Not really. It's just like making your own wiring harness for something. It's untested and you can try if you like but you'll have to fix your own problems most likely.
