Subject: RE: IRA help

NW Central Ohio
...13 or so years ago...I had to invest my retirement fund from working for my dad into an IRA. I didn't know poo from apple butter about stocks either...but thought it appropriate to diversify. I happened to read an article in Readers Digest that suggested a couple stocks, and chose two that I was somewhat familiar with, RPM (Rustoleum Paint) and WD 40 CO, (WD-40 lubricant). Those two stocks have other holdings...and according to the article have always been a slow steady gainer, without ever having a losing year in the market. Sooo..I went to talk to the advisor on my IRA, and invested about $2567 in the RPM stock, and $2570 in the WD-40 stock. I also added to that over the past 13 years....to the final initial investment of $4227 on the RPM and $3646 on the WD-40 stock. As of December 31, 2013...the RPM stock was worth $23,273 and the WD-40 was worth $18,350. In retrospect...if I had to do it over again...I would have invested everything I had in those two stocks.....None of the rest of my stock has even come close to duplicating that. Investment guys tend to confuse you...because they handle these things every day....but take your time, don't invest in something you haven't ever heard about...and the stock market can treat you very well.
