Just where do you get a Drone for $400-?

The info I have seen is more like $10,000- . I think a more for the rotary bladed ones, a bit less for the fixed wing ones.

At the only farm show looking I have done, I was told either $15,000- or $25,000-, can't remember which.
"But you are buying a lot of solfware" - To replace the airplane was a fraction of that.

AS to the cost of a autosteer system - I think about the lowest list price you will find is a electric motor deal, running off of a lower end display.
About $6000-

I doubt very much if the cost to put the hardware portion thru the factory is much more than 10% to 15% of that $6000-

But the cost of figuring out the solfware end, Company training, service and support. Also a margin of profit for both the company and the dealer.

I doubt if very much of that purchase price ends up in profits of Ag leader, Deere, Raven, Trimble, etc.

Again just where do you find a $400- Drone????
Brand name and a link to a website would be nice.

Bobby,

Not quite 400 but 500. http://www.amazon.com/DJI-Phantom-Aerial-Drone-Quadcopter/dp/B00AGO...

DJI is pretty much the standard for the "low end" market. I say that loosely because for $500 they are pretty darn capable. With a goPro strapped to it, you can get around 10-12 minutes of realistic flight time.

I don't care for the closed source nature of the DJI. I prefer the APM platform myself as I feel it's more "capable" (event triggers, hackable hardware, etc).

I run a 3drobotics rig similar to this. You can assemble one yourself for about 45-50% of the base cost depending on if you use name brand or knock off components.

I put mine together in two weekends. Pretty straightforward.

For crop scouting, er.... I mean recreational flying of your farm, I would stick with Y6 pattern if you can. Frames are cheap and you can build them up from there. You can have something VERY capable for under $600 if you currently own your own R/C transmitter.
