I would NOT use the variety specific population curves for much of anything. " That I disagree with. Take note of the Pioneer pop chart for 1522. At minimum the chart shows a producer that this hybrid does not like low yielding environments there for at minimum one could use it to eliminate this variety on soils that are drought prone. Some of their charts you can pick out which varieties flex a lot depending upon how many bushels a thousand plants will produce at low population. They also give producers an idea at what population diminishing returns really start kicking in. Beyond that producers need to know the varieties and their soils ability to produce and set the rates from there. jmo great discussion | |
