NW Washington | No, I would put on MAP as needed for the wheat on in the fall and only top dress with the rest of the nitrogen in the spring. But we found that how you applied the fertilizer did not matter, either with seed, banded near the seed row or broadcast. Winter wheat is going to be growing for 7 or 8 months and the fertility level in most good farm land is quite high. Most folks put on more fertilizer than the crops remove. Also our test sites were mostly in fields that previously grew peas or lentils which are both legumes. | |
