I don't know about the cylinder wall, usually where there is a selection like at Baum Hydraulics the tie rod cylinders are always less expensive for the same pressure rating and stroke. I've not looked to see if there might be a difference in closed length. On my implements the tie rod cylinders generally fit, though I break an AC cylinder on a Deere disk.
