| I've seen it done both ways. By far the majority around here that fertilize with planting, apply liquid in furrow. Usually half and half of 10-34-0 and 28%. That gets you to 19-17-0.....applying ten gallons/acre in the furrow. It is assumed that this is a "safe" amount, and should not affect germination.
I do have one neighbor that I know who mixes dry fertilizer with his seed, and sows all the mixture together. He does alright as well.
Our soils are acidic which tends to have them tie up phosphate fertilizers. The closer to the seed the phosphate is, the better off we are.,......or so it's said.
If I'm getting pressed for time, sometimes I still broadcast or spray starter fertilizer ahead of sowing. Try to incorporate but don't always. Can't tell much difference. showboat | |
