tkoppel what all do you burn (can burn) in your furnace

I can burn any kind of wood seasoned or green. I have not used pine, though it ought not be a problem. The manufacturer says not to burn pressure treated lumber, so I don't. Also say's to not burn trash, so I don't. There is no grate in the bottom of the fire box so getting a dense mass to burn (like a pile of corn or pellets) won't work since you cant get airflow through the mass. I thought about coal, but even if it could be found around here it burns too hot and likely would burn through the water jacket since it's only 3/16". Likely using non recommended material will void the warranty. I have heard of guys burning used tires and such but believe that's frowned upon in most locals.

The wildest thing I've heard of burning is bowling balls! Land lords batchelor uncle came up with junk balls from a closed bowling alley and thought he'd toss a ball in the stove at bedtime. Woke up to hear an awful pounding and popping coming from the outdoor boiler when the air trapped in the balls expanded!
