Mason City, IL
When I was probably 12, I filled some 7up bottles with about 1/2 full with gasoline and stuffed a strip of cloth into the neck. Lit the cloth and threw it at my dads stack of Hedge post for fencing. Flame always went out while in flight. Today I still am amazed I didn't blow/burn myself up, let alone the punishment if I had torched dad's fence posts! Also remember leaning over unloading auger motor to open sump doors and looking down and see my hood string about 1/2 inch from the pulley and thinking someone must have made me look to see this before bad things happened. Thank the Lord. Oh yeah, one year corn was down so bad and I was out combining alone. I was getting out of the combine with header running so I could push the stalks up the snout into the auger. After a couple of hours of this I thought this was stupid, I could get caught and no-one was here to help. Stopped and went home and ordered a corn reel. Wow, how dumb was that. I was actually hanging on to the ear savor/riser on the old jd corn head for support with one hand!!!!!
