Subject: RE: liability insurance on farmland

Floyd County, Iowa
Absolutely have liability insur. You just never know. It's not just for trespassers- "friendlies" can cost you, also. Hundreds of instances where you could be open to litigation.
Just a couple examples:
#1--Your combine goes down when you're in corn. Mechanic that you call for help comes out to work on your machine. As you and he are carrying a heavy part to his truck, he trips on a stalk and falls down face first, impaling some part of his face with a cut stalk. Yes, he's covered by his insurance, but that insurance company will be coming after you.
#2--Your wife brings you out lunch, and the grandkids come along. Kids will be kids, and one of them climbs up on the ladder to that combine. Loses his balance and falls backward, but catches his foot, breaking his leg. Your liability covers this.
Both examples complete accidents by "friendlies", but stuff happens.
